Krill Oil is made from krill, a small crustacean that's eaten by whales, penguins, and other sea creatures. Both Fish Oil and Krill Oil contain the OMEGA-3 fatty acids Eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic (DHA). Fish Oil has more OMEGA-3s than Krill Oil does. So why do alot of experts believe that Krill Oil is superior to Fish Oil?
This is because the OMEGA-3 fatty acids found in Krill Oil, which are stored in the form of molecules called phospholipids, may be easier for the body to absorb into the blood stream and then use than the OMEGA-3s that are found in Fish Oil which are stored in the form of triglycerides.
By being easier for the body to absorb and use, Krill Oil has greater anti-inflammatory benefits than Fish Oil does. Krill Oil also has a pink-orange pigment called astaxanthin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This greater anti-inflammatory properties of Krill Oil can improve arthritis symptoms and joint pain. It may also reduce stiffness, functional impairment and pain in people who suffer from rheumatoid  or osteoarthritis.
The OMEGA-3s in Krill Oil are heart healthy fats that can improve blood lipid levels, reduce triglyceride levels, and reduce levels of other blood fats.
Krill Oil can also raise good high-density lipoprotein (HDL) Cholesterol levels and reduce bad low-density lipoprotein (LDL) Cholesterol levels.
For women, Krill Oil can reduce period pain and symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
Krill Oil may be a little easier for the body to absorb but I think having some of both Krill Oil and Fish Oil is the way to go.
